What fees does unit-linked insurance have, and why do they matter?

Unit-linked insurance is transparent in that each charge is shown separately. These charges affect the account value remaining for investment. Understanding them before buying helps you choose the most cost-effective premium mix and holding period.

FeesWhat it isiWealthy rate
Premium ChargeRPP premium allocation chargeDeducted from the base premium before investment; covers the policy’s initial administration costsYear 1: 45% · Year 2: 30% · Year 3: 15% · Year 4: 10% · Year 5 onwards: None

LSTU: 1.25% per transaction
COICost of Insurance (COI)The cost of life cover, deducted monthly from the account value, based on age, sex and the “net amount at risk”, i.e. the sum assured in excess of the account value. The older you are or the higher the sum assured, the higher the COI.Based on mortality rates from the Thai Mortality Table 2017 (TMO17), ordinary class
CORCost of Rider (COR)The cost of rider cover, such as health or critical illness, deducted from the account value in some unit-linked plansNone iWealthy does not allow riders, so there is no COR. If you need health cover, take it out as a separate policy.
Policy Admin ChargePolicy administration chargePolicy maintenance charge, deducted monthly from the account value0.6% a year of the account value (0.05% deducted monthly)
Surrender / WithdrawalSurrender or withdrawal chargeApplied to withdrawals or surrenders in the early policy years, on the investment premium portionYear 1: 50% · Year 2: 30% · Year 3: 20% · Year 4: 5% · Year 5 onwards: None
SwitchingFund switching chargeWhen moving money from one fund to anotherFree 5 times a year; THB 150 per switch thereafter
Fund management feesof the chosen mutual fundAlready reflected in the unit price, not deducted separately from the policyAs stated in each fund’s prospectus
Charges fall substantially over the long termPremium Charge and surrender charges cease from year 5, so unit-linked insurance is best suited to money you intend to hold for 10 years or more
Choose an appropriate sum assuredA high sum assured provides strong protection, but the COI rises with age. Review your sum assured at each stage of life.
Add a Regular Top-Up (RTU)Charges are much lower than on the base premium, so more of your money is invested

Investment-linked life insurance (unit-linked)

iWealthy — high life cover, adaptable to your life, with the opportunity for your money to grow

Your premium is divided into two parts: the first buys life cover, and the second is invested in the mutual funds you choose. The investment value rises and falls with the market; it is not a deposit.

🛡️
High life cover
